Call for educators & media creators: #MYWorld360 is seeking 360° media on SDG Action
The UN SDG Action Campaign is inviting youth from all over the globe to become 360º media creators and share the stories of Action for the Sustainable Development Goals from their communities. Call is open until 1 April. Selected films will be presented at the SDG Global Festival of Action.
Immersive media pros or youth who have never used a 360º camera before, MYWorld 360° makes creating immersive stories accessible to everyone willing to make change. The program aims to drive youth engagement and agency, improve youth understanding about global issues impacting communities around the world, build young people’s technical production skills with new media, and spur public awareness and action. Through the online platform, participants get access to digital resources and virtual training to help them through the creative and production process.
“I want to be a journalist and show stories that don’t get shown. It’s about pushing things out for people to see and then for people to make the changes,” says Andrew Arias, one of the creators selected in the first MY World 360 edition.
Andrew’s short film“Slum vision”, takes the viewer on a journey through his city to understand the inequalities in his hometown and how the effects this has on people’s lives. He believes this opportunity has gotten him closer to his dream: to “become a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker, using new media to open people’s eyes and help them see the world in new ways, catalyzing a positive change”.
The call is open to youth everywhere. Films can be presented until 1 April 2019 to be part of the selection that will be presented at the SDG Global Festival of Action.
Global challenges from a local perspective
Andrew’s Slum Vision is part of the first MY World 360 program. The short film was screened alongside a selection of six immersive stories bringing the challenges of food waste, deforestation in Brazil, ocean’s pollution or the use of social media for young people’s health, from the perspective of young people to the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.
All selected stories from MY World 360º are made available on Facebook and YouTube.
